You’re invited to our Second Annual Burns Night Supper! Robert Burns’ birthday, January 25, this year falls on a Tuesday: tomorrow! Here at Oranbega Retreat Center we will be “piping in” the haggis at 6:30 p.m.
A very few people will be on site here at 36 Narramissic Drive, Orland, Maine, (masked and distanced!). Many more will join by Zoom. Link follows.
The festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. but the link will be open at 6:00 so there is plenty of time for people to get on board, be greeted, and make sure all the tech is working! So please join at any time between 6 & 6:29. We won’t be letting people in after the start! The zoom won’t go longer than 7:30.
As those attending in person consume the traditional meal of haggis (it’s just sausage, folks!) with turnips and potatoes (bashed neeps and chappit tatties), the rest of us will turn to the poetry of Robert Burns. After the traditional “Address To The Haggis,” and some other favorite Burns poems are read, we will invite the other ad participants on Zoom to chime in with your own favorite Burns poem, or perhaps a story or memory about Scotland. But don’t worry, if you are shy, you can just listen!
The musical portion this year is provided by the amazing local singer-songwriter Caroline Cotter, whose music is very much in the tradition of Rabbie Burns the lyrical story-teller bringing love, wit and beauty to us through song. One or two songs will be shared on Zoom, but the rest of her performance will be recorded and made available later here and on our facebook page.
We’ll hae a braw hootenanny! Och aye! Lang may yer lum reek.,
